Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, Dubrovnik is one of the world’s most grandiose walled cities and is currently Croatia’s most desired destination. The pedestrian-only Old Town, encircled with massive stone walls and overlooking the gistering blue Adriatic sea, draws innumerous visitors annually including celebrities and jet-set crowds.
Within the walls, one encounters a city packed with aristocratic palazzi and elegant Baroque churches made world-famous by the series Game of Thrones. Beyond the walls, Dubrovnik’s attractions include wine bars, classy seafood restaurants and five-star hotels and water-related activities such as amazing beaches, scuba diving and sea kayaking.
Dubrovnik possesses a glorious rock-and-pebble coast, with some of the best beaches lying on Lapad peninsula. Furthermore, you may choose to yacht to a neighbouring island for the day such as the tiny Lokrum island, with its botanical garden, or the pine-scented Elaphiti islands.
The Lokrum island is almost entirely covered with a deep green pine forest and is encircled by Adriatic waters and a coastline filled rocky coves whose waters are ideal for swimming. Whilst the Elaphiti islands, a small archipelago with a pristine nature reserve, are just the beginning of the world of majestical islands that exist off the coast of Dubrovnik. Additionally, in Elafiti you will find one of the few sand beaches in the area, Lopud’s Sunj beach.
Or, as a closer day excursion you could kayak or tender around Dubrovnik to see Dubrovnik’s walls and towers from a different perspective. The best way to experience Dubrovnik and all its natural and man made beauty is from the water; the high defensive walls, with its forts and towers look exceptionally more impressive when seen from below.
Dubrovnik is simply stunning when viewed from the sea. Whether you decide to sea kayak around the old town or take your yacht’s tender you'll enjoy magnificent views of the old town, and the city walls, and one of the most spectacular Adriatic sunsets.
Whilst on land, explore Dubrovnik’s history and the monuments the city has to offer, take a stroll down the pedestrianized Stradun - which is lined with shops and restaurants -, and shop at the local outdoor market. By night, dine at Michelin Starred 360, and then head to Buza Bar for drinks overlooking the waters.
