Why Charter a Yacht in Cancun, Mexico

Cancun is one of the most popular Caribbean hotspots for winter charters. From Cancun it is possible to cruise the picturesque Riviera Maya coastline or sail to Isla Mujeres and spend the day lounging at Playa Norte. Or, for a longer cruise, even sail to Holbox and Cozumel which are considered some of the most picturesque areas for diving and exploring by boat and should not be missed. Cancun is a Mexican city located on the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea and is known for its beaches, numerous resorts and amazing nightlife. It’s beachfront Zona Hotelera houses all of its high-rise hotels, nightclubs, shops, such as Plaza la Isla, and restaurants, we recommend the Japanese restaurant, Tora. Apart from being beautiful, Cancun’s beaches are some of the best spots in the world to see sea turtles. Cancun’s beaches actually serve as one of Mexico’s turtle nesting places. From May through October female turtles come ashore every night to dig nests and lay dozens of eggs. From July through December the eggs hatch and the babies swim out to sea. If you travel here between June and September, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to swim with Whale Sharks as the Yucatan coast near Cancun is a worldwide famous spot for swimming with whale sharks; the largest fish in the world. Despite being a shark, the adults are completely docile and harmless to humans and the younger sharks are extremely playful. The advantage of having a yacht in Cancun is that you are easily able to access its nearby islands such as Isla Mujeres. On your cruise over to Isla Mujeres, make sure to snorkel at MUSA, an underwater museum with over 500 sculptures by six artists. The museum’s main goal is to encourage the growth of coral and replenish the once existing habitat of tropical marine life. As you arrive at Isla Mujeres, enjoy lunch at Mar-Bella for the best seafood on the island, and later take a walk through town where you will be able to go shopping before returning to Cancun. As you cruise the Riviera Maya’s coast, you will find that it is dotted with natural ponds, known as cenotes, formed from collapsed limestone with impressive sapphire, turquoise and emerald waters. Drop anchor and go for a swim or snorkel to explore these impressive natural structures as you explore the nearby islands and beaches. A more distant cruise would be from Cancun to Holbox, where you will find the Instagram-famous hammocks in the seas. As you arrive, head to Raíces for one of the best seafood lunches in town, and later spend the afternoon basking under the sun in crystal clear waters.
